• Nebraska
This investigation revealed that pigs were kept in barren metal crates so small that they were unable even to turn around. Pigs were covered in painful open sores as a result of rubbing against the sides of these crates and the faces, heads, shoulders, backs, and legs of other frightened and injured pigs. • South Dakota
A year-long investigation at a South Dakota pig facility documented gratuitous and systematic abuse, including beating animals with shovels and letting them drown in their own excrement, but authorities refused to do anything about it.
