Ducks and Geese

Force-Fed to Death
Foie gras, French for “fatty liver,” is produced by jamming pipes down the throats of ducks and geese in order to force-feed them massive amounts of food, which purposely induces a painful disease that makes their livers grow unnaturally large. In PETA’s exposé of this cruel industry, Sir Roger Moore shows consumers that foie gras is a disease, not a delicacy. Watch the video.

Delicacy of Despair
In the summer of 2002, a coalition of organizations conducted undercover investigations at two foie gras farms in the United States—Sonoma Valley in California and Hudson Valley in New York. They discovered that birds were blinded by infection, suffering from gaping wounds, and being eaten alive by rats. Their efforts led to the passage of state legislation that will make it illegal to produce foie gras in California by 2012. Read more and watch the videos.

Ducks out of Water
This Viva! investigation addresses the suffering endured by ducks and geese used for their flesh and for foie gras; it reveals the cruelty of force-feeding, mutilations, and systematic starvation. Watch the video.
