Crippled Pigs

Pigs often develop crippling joint and leg problems because they are bred and drugged to grow beyond their natural size, and they spend most of their lives on concrete or slatted floors that hurt their feet and legs. Every year, more than 420,000 pigs are crippled by the time they arrive at the slaughterhouse—these pigs are dragged off the trucks to their deaths. The pig in this photo has to use her front legs to drag herself around her filthy pen.
