Mutilation of PigletsAfter they are taken from their mothers, piglets are mutilated. The confinement, stress, and boredom of life in factory farms causes some pigs to chew their neighbors' tails. Instead of giving them more room or access to the outdoors, factory-farm workers cut off the piglets' tails and cut out some of their teeth, which, like our teeth, are filled with nerve endings. In further efforts to curtail tail-chewing, workers castrate the males without the use of painkillers. This piglet is having his testicles ripped out of his scrotum. |
