Transcript of Exchange at Shareholder Meeting Between PETA and Burger King CEO Mr. Colin Storm, November 9, 2000

CS: Thank you for your question Mr Butler, and I'm sure you didn't intend to mislead the shareholders but I think there are one or two things that you said which don't accord with my understanding of the facts. BK in the US have been in contact with PETA in the US over the past couple of months.

Indeed that interaction between us has intensified over the last month and I am personally involved and aware of that. What we have acknowledged is that we would benefit from having an advisory council on animal welfare, indeed our correspondence with your organisation in the US has been about what sort of shape that should take and who the most appropriate people should be involved in that. As you probably know Dr. Grandin, who has been advising the McDonalds corporation, has agreed to participate with us on that advisory council. Our view is that until we do have a comprehensive policy on animal treatment, over and above what already exists, then it would be inappropriate to take ad hock action and we are actively pursuing that advisory council, which fact I am surprised you are not aware of.

PETA representative Andrew Butler: I would just ask once again that we still haven't been provided with your current regulations and your current guidelines. If we were able to see a copy of those, that would certainly go a long way in helping dialogue between us.

CS: What we have said to your organisation in the US is we abide by current US standards.

AB: Which fall below those here in the UK. As I said, McDonald have agreed to go beyond that, to institute welfare reforms which go beyond current legislation. Would you be willing to match or indeed look at surpassing those standards?

CS: I can only repeat that until we have established this advisory council and look at the issue in the round, it would be inappropriate to make any steps in advance of that.

The next question from the floor was then taken.
