PETA's 2007 Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Minor League Ballparks
PETA's headquarters is in Norfolk, Virginia, home of the Norfolk Tides, so we know that there's nothing better than sitting in the stands on a Saturday afternoon, enjoying a veggie dog and a beer or cold soda, and watching an exciting minor league ballgame. While major league stadiums tend to have a larger selection at concession stands, many minor league teams have recognized the trend toward healthy and humane eating. This is the first year that we surveyed minor league stadiums, and we were impressed with the number of them that are serving delicious vegetarian food. Here's a sampling of the best:
Durham Bulls Athletic Park (Durham Bulls): Veggie burger, veggie dog, veggie burrito, salad, fruit cups.
PGE Park (Portland Beavers): Veggie dog, Gardenburger, vegetable soup. (For catering: peanut-tofu skewers with pineapple salsa, fruit-and-berry display, salads.)
Harbor Park (Norfolk Tides): Veggie dog, Gardenburger, full salad bar in restaurant, veggies and hummus.
McCoy Stadium (Pawtucket Red Sox): Veggie dog, veggie burger, salad.
AutoZone Park (Memphis Redbirds): Grilled veggie dog, grilled vegetable panini, salads, roasted corn on the cob.
Harry Grove Stadium (Frederick Keys): Veggie wrap in the café, veggie burger in the picnic area.
MerchantsAuto.com Stadium (New Hampshire Fisher Cats): Veggie burger, baked potato, garden salad, fruit salad.
Fifth Third Ballpark (West Michigan Whitecaps): Gardenburger, meatless taco salad.
Cheney Stadium (Tacoma Rainiers): Veggie burger, baked potato.
Frawley Stadium (Wilmington Blue Rocks): Veggie burger, garden salad.
