Rock Icon Joan Jett Slams Butterball Cruelty With New Thanksgiving Hotline

Joan Jett in PETA T-ShirtAs the rebellious rock icon behind the Runaways and the Blackhearts, Joan Jett has snarled and sneered her way to the top of the music charts with straight-up rock hits like "I Love Rock 'N' Roll," "Cherry Bomb," and "Bad Reputation." Rocking harder than ever, Joan just wrapped up this year's Warped Tour, where she treated legions of old and new fans to cuts from her band's latest album, Sinner. The rock star, who is a long-time vegetarian, proves that she loves animals as much as she loves rock 'n' roll in her new Butterball hotline message for PETA.

"Workers at a Butterball plant were recently documented punching and kicking live birds, slamming them against metal trailers, and worse," says Joan in the exclusive PETA recording, which can be heard at 1-888-VEG-FOOD. "Please join me in calling Butterball's Turkey Talk Line to tell their operators that there is no appropriate way to cook a tortured bird. Call 1-800-BUTTERBALL."

Butterball earned its "Bad Reputation" after an undercover investigation at a Butterball slaughterhouse in Ozark, Arkansas, documented these and other cases of abuse, including incidents in which an employee stomped on a bird's head until her skull exploded, another worker swung a turkey against a metal handrail so hard that her spine popped out, and yet another employee inserted his finger into a turkey's vagina.
