PETA's Congressional Veggie Hot Dog Luncheon

The rivalry and rancor on Capitol Hill has never been fiercer, and we’re not talking about Democrats and Republicans. That’s because Playboy playmates Lauren Anderson and Robin Arcuri are hosting PETA’s ninth annual Veggie Hot Dog Lunch at the Rayburn House Office Building on Wednesday, July 20, 2005.

In direct response to the American Meat Institute’s “Hot Dog Lunch,” the sexy centerfolds, wearing nothing more than strategically placed lettuce leaves, will satisfy cravings by dishing up delicious veggie dogs.

Why Veggie Dogs?

Better for You

Carrot-crunching Casanovas stay slim, sexy, and sizzling—while meat-eating men start fizzling! That’s because it’s a hard medical fact that meat-eating clogs the arteries leading to ALL your organs, not just to your heart. In fact, the three biggest killers in the United States—heart disease, cancer, and strokes—are linked to meat consumption. Vegetarians have more “get up and go” and less unwanted body fat than meat-eaters.

Better for Animals

More than 100 million pigs are killed every year in the U.S. to be made into bacon, sausage, ham, and wieners. These smart, friendly animals are raised on huge, filthy factory farms. Breeding sows are impregnated several times during their miserable lives, and with each pregnancy, they display increasingly severe signs of distress. During slaughter, pigs are known to be scalded alive when improperly stunned by harried slaughterhouse workers. Plus, meat hot dogs can contain all sorts of ugly stuff, including the stomachs, snouts, spleens, intestines, and even lips and anuses of abused animals. If Americans could see inside slaughterhouses, they’d lose their lunch.
